North Carolina, Charlotte - Wednesday, July 10, 2013 - NASCAR Hall of Fame

On Sunday we’ll be headed out to Maggie Valley near Ashville, NC.  After we spend a week there we are going to have to come back here to get the work done on our air conditioner.  They don’t have all of the parts to get it done before we leave this week.  It’s only about a three hour drive, so not really that big of a problem.
We headed into Charlotte early this morning to find the NASCAR Hall of Fame.  Wow, this place is impressive!  It is right in the middle of the downtown area next to the convention center.

It also connects to the largest Buffalo Wild Wings I have ever seen.  There is a large TV screen on the outside of the building that can be seen from the patio of the BWW.

A memory walk of bricks leads into the building.

NASCAR radio and TV programs are broadcast from here.

There are 4 levels to the building.  Level 1 is the High Octane Theater where you watch a film on how NASCAR began.  The aluminum entry doors roll up like a garage door.

Level 2 has Glory Road which mimics the various degrees of banking, including the 33-degree incline at Talladega Superspeedway.  I don’t know how they get the cars to stay on the track at that steep of incline.  There are several historic cars along the Glory Road including the winner of the first NASCAR race.  The Pit Stop Café is on this floor also – very good pulled pork sandwiches.

Level 3 is where the Hall of Honor inductees are honored.

Race Week is also located here – it shows what a NASCAR team goes through to prepare for each week’s race.  I particularly liked going through the inside of the transporter.

Level 4 is the Heritage Speedway with individual galleries showing over 60 years of NASCAR history.  We ended the tour with a stop at the Gear Shop to pick up a new Christmas ornament.

On our way home we stopped at Bass Pro Shop and got some of the pants that zipper from long pants to shorts.  The ones for me have sun shield properties.  My Fourth of July sun sitting in shorts is starting to show up on my legs as those tiny purple spots I always get from the sun, so I’ll go back to long pants when I’m outside.  After Bass Pro Shop we found a Walgreens so I could get one of my prescriptions filled.  That was such an easy process it was amazing.  This is the first prescription we have had to fill since we left Indiana so I wasn’t real sure how it would work – I was very pleased.  We added some bread and water to our stash and we were headed home.  No, bread and water isn’t all we are eating – it was all we were low on.
