Maryland, Lothian to Concord, NC - Sunday, July 7, 2013 Charlotte Motor Speedway

Today is a travel day.  We met Robyn, Jason and Maddie for breakfast at Dunkin Donuts.  Like good grandparents we got Maddie on a sugar high and then left.  We are headed to Concord, NC which is just outside Charlotte.

We took I-85 through North Carolina and I have to say I am impressed with how beautiful the North Carolina landscaping is on this highway.  For several miles these trees with large pink flowers were planted in the median.

At each interchange large blocks of yellow or orange lilies, ornamental grasses and flowering trees were planted.

There was also a lack of litter and billboards.  It kind of made me ashamed of the trashy conditions of some of the Indiana highways.
We pulled into the Tom Johnson Camping Center Racing Resort at the Charlotte Motor Speedway just ahead of some rain.  We got set up, put the awning out and were thinking about sitting outside once the sun went down since the rain had stopped and the temperature had dropped to a tolerable level.  Then all of a sudden strong winds and rain came through almost taking down our awning before Greg got it retracted.
