Virginia, Ashland - Saturday, August 16, 2014 - Americamps RV Resort

Ok I’m back in my happy place again.  The weather is sunny, not too humid and we are in a nice campground just off of I-95, exit 89.  We are only staying here one night, but I think it is a place we would enjoy coming back to visit.  The roads are nice and wide with plenty of crushed stone.  The sites are either crushed stone or concrete.  Lots of shaded sites, ours has some ornamental grass instead of trees which makes for better TV reception.

Our current site C-11 is just across the street from the Center of the Universe Brewing Company.  They have a beer garden and a tasting room.  For a while this evening they had live music which wasn’t too bad.  We aren’t beer drinkers, but if we were staying here a little longer we might have checked it out.

They have a couple of VIP sites, looks like you need to have a Monaco to qualify for those J.

The grounds and buildings are well-kept.  There is a fenced in dog park for those who have pets.

The pool is small but very nice.

This park is not far from the Richmond International Raceway so we may have to schedule some time back here in conjunction with a NASCAR race.  During race weeks they provide a charter bus service to the track.  We picked up some brochures on things to do in the area, lots of Civil War history around here.  They also have some scenic motorcycle trips mapped out.

We had to laugh yesterday as we were leaving South Carolina the last thing we saw was a tourist stop called South of the Border or SOB for short.

Pedro had a little bit of everything here to relieve tourists of some of their money.  This was just one of about 15 shops plus a reptile lagoon, we didn’t check them out.  Their big plus for us was the parking lot was big and we could get in and out without any trouble.

We stopped for about 15 minutes to stretch our legs.  Since Greg didn’t want to climb to the top of the “sombrero tower” we moved on.

We saw lots of tobacco fields as we were leaving Wilson, NC this morning.

As you get out on the road you can’t see anything but trees.

We were just glad we weren’t going the other way today.  Southbound traffic was either very slow or stopped in several areas and sometime it would stretch for miles.

This is the James River Bridge we crossed as we were coming around Richmond, VA on I-295.  Very impressive.
