Virginia, Lexington - Sunday, May 31, 2015 - Natural Bridge/Lexington KOA

We are here in Natural Bridge/Lexington KOA site 74 for the night.  We normally don’t use KOAs but there wasn’t much else to choose from that was decent.  The good campgrounds in Virginia must be nearer the coast J.  Since we are just passing through this will work out just fine.

We are having the same trouble finding a good campground around Harrisburg, PA which is where we plan to be tomorrow night.  The last time we were in Harrisburg we stayed at Harrisburg East RV Park, it was ok and I think it was the only thing we could find then.  We’ll probably be staying there again tomorrow night because we can’t seem to find anything else – we are open to suggestions if anyone has stayed somewhere else.

Greg was pretty certain he wouldn’t be watching TV this evening but the Dish locked onto a satellite through a hole in all of the leaves.

After we left the rally site this morning we had to stop for our monthly grocery shopping.  I put away all of the things that had to go in the freezer and fridge while we were in the Wal-Mart parking lot.  This is what still needed to be put away this evening.  I did find a place for everything.  I’m glad we only do this once a month, wears us out.  Pulling into Wal-Mart with the coach keeps us from having to do really large shopping trips on the motorcycle.

The scenery through North Carolina and into Virginia was really pretty until we ran into some rain.

And then some other vehicles ran into each other creating this 3-mile back up in front of us.  I guess it went back behind us several more miles.  When we got to the accident site it looked rather minor to have created all this mess.

Site 74 was the only site available that we could fit into.  In fact we had to pull through the site behind us in order to get into this one.  Later in the day another couple that was at the RV Dreams rally pulled into it, we were glad they were running late.  At $60 a night it is more than we usually spend on overnight stays.  It is more expensive because it has a large deck.  Everything looks pretty new except for the fire pit, it has had some hard use.

The swing looks brand new and was real comfy until the wind and rain came in.

If you are big into checkers, this is the place to come.

Kentucky, Lexington - Sunday, April 27, 2014 - Walmart

We left Timberline Valley RV Resort mid-morning and headed to Indianapolis to attend the monthly meeting for Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter One.  We’ve been members of Rolling Thunder for over three years.  We are very proud of the work Rolling Thunder does to promote awareness of the issues involving POWs and MIAs who need to be brought home.  The past four years we participated in the Ride to the Wall which is a peaceful demonstration ride in Washington, D.C. on Memorial Day weekend.  The demonstration is to bring awareness to the POW/MIA issues.  This year we aren’t going to be able to participate in the demonstration, but we will be at the sendoff to wish them safe travels.  It was good to catch up with our Rolling Thunder friends.
We have made it as far as Lexington, KY and are taking advantage of the hospitality of the local Walmart – we are staying in their parking lot tonight.  If we are just going to be stopping overnight going from point A to point B this just seems like the easiest alternative.   We always go in and do our shopping and ask permission to stay, so far we haven’t been refused anywhere.

Since our route today was one we had been over many times, I spent some time catching up on my magazine reading on the IPad instead of sightseeing.  I subscribe to Next Issue and can pick from over 100 different magazines for $10.00 a month.  You can pick as many or as few magazines as you want and you can change at any time, I have picked about 15 I look at.  You have access to past issues too.  Once you have downloaded your monthly magazines you have access to read them without the benefit of the internet so you can read them going down the road.  It usually takes 2 or 3 minutes to download a magazine.  They have just this month added a great feature, you can save pages to your electronic device (just like ripping the pages out of the magazines).  The pages are saved in your “pictures” file and you can work with them from there.  I’ve been very pleased with this service, it is especially nice for those of us who travel and live in limited spaces where we don’t want a lot of magazine clutter.
