We hope
everyone had a wonderful 4th of July.
On Tuesday
evening I took advantage of the view we have from the campground and watched
fireworks coming from about 20 sites throughout the Rapid City area. We are located high up on a hill and can see
the entire city of Rapid City, which is the second largest city in South
Dakota. The official 4th
celebration wouldn’t take place until Wednesday but this one was really
beautiful. Greg stayed in the coach
plotting our next big adventure. I made
it back to the coach just in time to avoid Mother Nature’s wrath. She had some fireworks of her own going on
that night, got some pretty serious storms.
In the morning you couldn’t tell anything had happened.
On Wednesday
the 4th we staked out a spot on the top floor of one of the downtown parking
lots early in the evening. Our spot
overlooked the Main Street Square. Lots
of kids were enjoying the water pad even though it was a bit cool.
Beautiful
huge granite sculptures surround the square.
Other views
from the top of the parking garage.
We had
supper at the Firehouse Brewing Company, which is the oldest brewery in South
Dakota. The food was great. We would heartily recommend the artichoke dip
with garlic beer bread. After we ate we
had to walk around a bit.
Art Alley is
a place where walls, stairways, and trash cans can be painted by permit. The art is constantly changing. This is a great idea to show off the talent
of some of the artists who usually resort to graffiti.
We found a
few of the bronze statues of presidents that have recently been added to
downtown.

We are
headed to Crazy Horse and to see part of Custer State Park on Thursday. That may be another long post.
