Arizona, Williams - Friday, October 24, 2014 - Grand Canyon Railroad RV Resort

We are struggling a bit with getting our body clocks adjusted to Mountain Standard Time.  MST is three hours behind the time zone we are used to.  We will be on this time until we leave Arizona next April then we’ll have to struggle again.  We had a hard time staying up until 10:30 last night (that is 1:30 a.m. in Indiana).
Grand Canyon Railroad Hotel and RV Resort is a very nice place.  The only drawback is that it is near the railroad, guess we should have known that J.  Quite frankly, I was so tired last night the two trains that came through didn’t really bother me.

There is a playground, swimming pool and hot tub available to residents of the RV park, but they are located in the nearby hotel.  The hotel is within easy walking distance.

There is a restaurant on site at the resort.

There is a restaurant/pub just off the lobby of the hotel, also.

The depot area of the resort is where we went to get our tickets to ride the train to the south rim of the Grand Canyon tomorrow.  There is also a gift shop and candy store.

Several old train cars sit around the resort grounds.

Every weekend in October they have haunted railcars.  I think they have some kind of celebration downtown also.

Love the pumpkin on the front

We thought we could probably find our way out of this maze.

We walked for a couple of hours in historic downtown Williams and along old route 66.  They were playing 60's music on the street and in the stores.

Some of the old Grand Canyon railroad cars are sitting on the track downtown.

Smokey says the fire danger right now is “moderate”.  I’m glad because there were a lot of controlled burns going on in the area yesterday.  Several signs were out on the interstate warning about dense smoke, but the breezes were blowing the other way.  We could see lots of smoke from various areas though.

Some views of downtown Williams, AZ.

Greg thought we should get some horns for the front of the coach.  I was kind of drawn to the bedazzled number on the right – it was marked down to $600 from $1200, sounds like a bargain to me.

We decided to have lunch at Cruisers Café 66 Bar and Grill.

We had “pork wings” for an appetizer.  If I remember right the menu said they were from the pork shank.  At any rate, they were tender and meaty but awfully messy.

I had a dinner salad since I knew the appetizer would be pretty filling and I was going to steal some of Greg’s onion rings.

Greg’s mushroom and Swiss burger was huge and very tasty according to him.  Don’t worry, we ate healthier this evening.

The inside of the café was almost deserted today, the weather outside was just right so everyone was out on the patio.

I thought this looked interesting but we didn’t check it out.  There was a big iron gate leading into the place.

At the depot gift shop I bought an amethyst for the decorative trays I put on the dash of the coach when we are stopped.  It also makes a good paperweight which we need when we have the windows open enjoying the breezes.
