South Dakota, Sioux Falls - Thursday, August 1, 2013 - Tower RV Park

We’ve arrived in Sioux Falls at the Tower Campground which will be home for the next five weeks until September 5.  However, we may have to stay until the 8th because I noticed in the listing of local events that on September 7 the National Fireworks Association is having a fireworks show at the fairgrounds.  I’ll have to find out more about that – I love fireworks!
Our trip today was through agricultural areas once we got out of Council Bluffs.  We noticed these sculptures on the bridge as we left this morning – hard to believe we missed them last night, but we were looking for where we needed to turn.

Iowa still seems sad to me.

Even though some of their roads are pink – yep, pink.  The rocks in Iowa and South Dakota that they grind up for the “black top” are pink so their roads look pink.  I tried to capture it in a picture, but the pictures just don’t do it justice.
We were passed by a lot of bikers going to Sturgis.  Since we have a bike on the back of the RV they assumed we were headed there also and waved as they went by.

The landscape just seemed to brighten up once we got into South Dakota, I wrote a while back about how impressed I was with the flowers and grasses planted on the roadside in North Carolina.  Well, I am equally impressed with what they do in South Dakota, they bale it.  Not nearly as pretty, but conservative.

This RV park is a nice place to spend a few weeks.

Not a lot of amenities like a pool and playground, but we don’t use those anyway.  The part we are in is new.  Greg was able to get all three satellites to lock on for the TV so he’s a really happy camper.  We are near the downtown area and they have a lot of things going on this time of year.  There is a block party tomorrow and a fair that goes on for a week at the fairgrounds.  This fair isn’t the state fair, I think it is the Annual Sioux Empire Fair.  They have a Falls Park here, just like Pendleton, IN where we are from.  We’ll check it out and send pictures.
