I’m playing
catch up on my blog posts today. Our
internet reception has been poor so even though I wrote blogs the past two
days, I couldn’t get them published until today. We’ll be leaving Stone Mountain in the
morning, not sure just yet where we will end up tomorrow, just know it will be
somewhere west of here. Our biggest
accomplishment today was an hour walk.
We are
headed to the Stone Mountain Golf Club.
The walk there has the golf course on one side.
And, Stone
Mountain on the other. Couldn’t ask for
a better fall day, it is in the high 70’s here.
Our
turnaround point was the Stone Mountain Golf Club. Several hills between where we started and
here. They have a big golf outing going
on today for the Krystal Company.
Keeping
these bushes trimmed to say “Stone Mountain Golf Club” just might be a fulltime
job for someone.
The
restaurant at the club has some outside seating on the deck with some really
good views.
I’m not sure
this guy is enjoying the view but he certainly seems to be enjoying the
sunshine.
The Carillon
which is in the park across the lake can be seen from the golf club. The Carillon is an instrument containing 732
bells of 12 different types. It is made
of steel alloy and redwood. The tower
stretches to 13 stories. The Carillon
was built in Germany in 1962 and was exhibited at the New York World’s Fair in
1964. It was donated to the public by
Coca Cola in 1965.
The Lake
Front Pavilion on the golf club property can be rented for private
parties. Or when it isn’t rented it can
be a nice place to rest before heading back home.
You can
watch the cable cars go up and down Stone Mountain.
Or, you can
ponder how trees manage to grow out of solid granite.
