Kansas, Pratt - Monday, October 19, 2015 - Busy Weekend

Since Friday we have been happily catching up with our Kansas family and friends.  On Friday evening grandkids Wyatt and Cheyanne and their friend Westyn kept things lively in the motor coach while grandpa (in the background) was trying to watch the ballgame.  He didn’t seem to mind except when their domino towers fell on the hard table and floor.  After the shock of the first time it wasn’t so bad.

On Saturday evening we attended the Friends of NRA banquet in Sharon, KS, birthplace of Martina McBride.  David was one of the guest auctioneers.  It was an evening of good company, good food and some great entertainment during the auction.  One of the things this group promotes heavily is firearms safety training.

The guy in white is another one of the auctioneers modeling an NRA bathrobe with a concealed carry pocket while David auctioned it off.  Not an item you would find just anywhere.

Sunday afternoon brought a call to see if grandma could take someone skating.  Cheyanne and I stopped off first at Lemon Park.  Lemon Park has several wooden sculptures, but this one was her favorite.

I walked while she skated ahead.  She was admiring the catalpa trees but didn’t notice the beans on them until I pointed them out.

From Lemon Park we moved on to Sixth Street Park.  I think Pratt has 14 or 15 nice little parks.  On level surfaces and uphill she is really good.

She made her way uphill to check out this gazebo.

Then she realized she had to come back down.  The first few tries ended up with her in the grass picking leaves out of her hair.

She finally conquered the downhill portion, but it was good that Dad showed up to catch her at the end since she couldn’t get stopped.

We weren’t the only ones out enjoying the park.

Greg and I got out and walked today going along the paths that Cheyanne and I covered yesterday.  In all we walked a mile and a half.  This was the first challenge for the new pacemaker and it worked well.  Tomorrow we’ll go back again, I want to pick up some pine cones for Christmas decorations.
