We’ve never
been to Tallahassee before so we thought we would stop and see what we could
find here. We are staying at the
Tallahassee RV Park – nice place.
I read about
the five certified “canopy roads” that radiate out from Tallahassee. I thought a drive on one would be nice – it
was but Greg says we have the same thing in Indiana we just call them
overhanging trees. I did point out that
we don’t have lovely hanging moss on the trees in Indiana.
On one of
the canopy roads is Bradley’s Country Store which was built in 1927 and is on
the National Register of Historic Places.
They make
their homemade smoked sausage on site and ship it nationwide.
They also
carry a lot of other things. If you are
looking for a vacant hornet’s nest this is your place.
After the
canopy road we headed for Wakulla Springs State Park.
The lodge
here opened in September, 1937.
The mosaics
on the lobby ceiling are stunning.
Lunch at the
lodge was very good. I had the Farmer’s
salad and Greg had catfish tacos.
We checked
out the boat tours, but the glass bottom boats weren’t running today because
the water was murky due to recent rainfall.
When the water is clear you can see into a cave where there are still
ancient mastodon bones. A complete
mastodon was excavated from here and is on display at a nearby museum.
The water
near the boathouse looked pretty clear.
Since we
couldn’t do the boat ride we decided to check out the walking trails.
I was
surprised that very few wildflowers were blooming.
