We’ve
stopped for the night at a very nice little country campground on US 2 just
outside of Dixfield, Maine. Here we are
in site 12, 50 amp service and water, no sewer hook ups but we don’t need them
for the night. They have a dump station
for folks who need it. They offer
special rates for veterans, our rate for this evening was $24.
I don’t know the name of this mountain but it is awesome. Its on I-93 north of Lincoln. This thing is just massive.
A small
lake, white birch trees and blue lupines add to the beauty of the area.
Once we enter Maine there are no east-west interstates so we will be traveling on two lane roads to our next destination near Bar Harbor, Main on the other side of the state.
Scenery
looks about the same as New Hampshire.
These old
homes looked interesting too.
A river runs
along US 2, it is wide and running very rapidly right now. I asked the campground owner the name of the
river because it runs along the campground also – it was an Indian name that
started with an A, that’s all I can remember.
The Pejepscook
(also an Indian name) Campground has a small general store.
I was
intrigued by the railings on the bath house.
They are made from old Singer sewing machine stands.
This
campground hosts the Girl Scouts a couple of times a year and they love the
teepees.
