We danced
last night with the “Shirts & Skirts” square dance club here in Sioux
Falls. Had a great time and met a lot of
wonderful people. I was right, I was
exhausted by the time we were done. As
we were riding home last night I realized I had forgotten to mention one of the
things I find very different here – small casinos everywhere. They are about the size of a gas station convenience
store building, very plain exterior. I
think we passed five of them on the way home, hard to tell how many there are
in the city.
People at
the dance were very interested in the life style we have chosen. The question we get asked most is, “wasn’t it
hard to sell everything?” Emotionally,
no – physically, yes. It’s hard to
believe the amount of stuff you collect over the years and most of it is hidden
somewhere so you never use it. A couple
of the women were so sweet about giving us suggestions of things to do while we
are here. When we said we were going to
be here a little over a month, one of them said, “What on earth are you going
to do here for 30 days?” I started to
say we would be doing the same thing they would be doing – cooking, cleaning,
laundry, but I thought I might sound like a smart aleck and she was so
concerned that we enjoy ourselves. What
we do isn’t a perpetual vacation, we just get to enjoy life in a variety of
locals. That does give us the
opportunity to see new things if we want, but a lot of the time we just enjoy
time at home. It’s nice to have the
choice.
Tomorrow we
are gathering up the legal documents we need and heading to the BMV to get our
South Dakota drivers’ licenses. My
picture ought to be interesting since we’ll be going in on the motorcycle,
probably won’t be my best look.
