New York Turnpike - Sunday, July 5, 2015 - Iroquois Service Center

We said goodbye to this little cutie last night after the fireworks.  It never fails, grandma gets all teary-eyed after any of the kids or grandkids leave.  Papaw Greg knows it’s going to happen so he’s always ready with some hugs.  We had a great time with Robyn, Jason and Maddie just wish it was a little longer.

The fireworks at Short Sands Beach in York, Maine were beautiful last night.  It rained earlier in the day, the night was a bit cool but a great night for fireworks.

You might remember that when we pulled into the campground in York we were in the midst of a torrential downpour and we sank into mud in our grassy site.  We kept our fingers crossed and I said a little prayer when we started to leave this morning.  All went well, we pulled right out.  I’m sure the campground is going to have some ruts to deal with even though Greg filled them in as best he could with the tires still sunk in the mud while we were there.

Our goal today and the next two days is to cover at least 300 miles a day so we can be in Indiana sometime Tuesday afternoon.  Today we have been in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York.

Once we got rid of the folks that wanted to go to New York City the traffic hasn’t been too bad.

We are stopped for the night at the Iroquois Service Plaza on the New York Turnpike.  They allow overnight parking so we are taking advantage of it.  They don’t have any hookups so we are running the generator right at the moment but will probably shut it off when we go to bed.  It’s cool enough we shouldn’t need the air conditioner.

Maine, York - Friday, July 3, 2015 - Hanging Out With Maddie

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GRANDDAUGHTER MACKENZIE!!

We’ll be celebrating with Mackenzie when we get back to Indiana.  Right now we are having fun hanging out with our youngest granddaughter, Maddie.
We’ve been to Fun-O-Rama.

She made me a necklace for my birthday.

We’ve been to Toys Are Us to get her an early birthday present.

She picked out a puppy she can doctor.

She has stayed with us for an afternoon.  Watching a movie with the teddy bear daughter Desira made me, laying on the fuzzy cover for the motorcycle seat.  We were hoping this would lead to a nap.  She did doze off for a while.

Tonight we went to Texas Roadhouse with her and Jason and Robyn.

Texas Roadhouse has the best grilled salmon.

Tomorrow we’ll be watching fireworks on Short Sands Beach here in York.  The next morning we will be headed to Indiana.

Maine, York - Tuesday, June 30, 2015 - Long Sands Beach

Got my toes in the sand today, but not much in the water – the water was cold.

We spent the day at Long Sands Beach along with a lot of other people.

Maddie was looking fashionable as always.

Lots of seaweed washed up on shore, it was churned up during the storm a couple of days ago.  Huge clams get stuck in some of these bundles.

Jason was braver than the rest of us, he got out at least waist deep.

Maddie tried the boogie board.

The weather was beautiful today, just right for sitting and watching the waves come in.

Or taking a nap.

This little hermit crab was just going in circles.

After naps a different swim suit was in order for playing Frisbee.

Maddie and her friend Ryan having an important conversation.

Before we left Maddie had to bury Papaw’s foot in the sand.
