Indiana, Markleville - Friday, July 1, 2016 - Shipshewana Trip

This past Wednesday we decided to take advantage of the fact that we have the use of son AJ’s car and drove to Shipshewana, IN for an overnight stay.  There were a few things I wanted to look for and if we had found all of them, bringing them back home on the motorcycle would have been a challenge.  We stayed at a very nice hotel, Blue Gate Garden Inn.

We enjoyed a lunch buffet of Amish cooking at the Blue Gate Restaurant – the broccoli cheddar soup was amazing.  Today we have ourselves back on track and eating right.

The restaurant had some very nice landscaping.

Although the flea market was going strong on Wednesday, we chose to visit some of the local shops downtown instead.  They had a little bit of everything.

Our only purchase for the day was a wall shelf for a space we didn’t think we would be able to fill.  I’m very pleased with the look and the functionality of the shelf.

We were tired after our shopping so we spent some quality relaxation time on this small patio listening to the water flow from the fountain.

Then we moved to the courtyard – retirement is good.

We’ve had a pretty busy couple of weeks since arriving in Markleville.  Greg has been doing some of the things he had on his list of things to do to the coach.  When he replaced our kitchen faucet late last year he didn’t rehook the line for the ice maker.  We don’t use the ice maker so we didn’t miss it, but he wanted to make it right so he got that finished up.

The Indiana grandkids are keeping us pretty busy also.  Mackenzie and Kyle had a swim meet last Saturday.

Mackenzie competed in several events.

With mom, Amanda, cheering her on.

This was Kyle’s first competition, he was a little nervous but did well for his first time.

As soon as the swim meet was over we hopped in the car and drove a couple of hours north to watch Jackson’s baseball team win their championship game.

We’ve caught up with a few friends and we did a little shopping.  We found some new chairs for our dining area.  I think they look pretty good.
